This year on March 7, 2019 I took a team of 6 students to compete in the annual Frisco ISD High School Battle of the Books competition. This group of students was so fun to get to work with this year as we prepared for this event. I posted flyers and posters around the school in the fall, and students signed up to participate. I had a set of the 12 books available to the team in the library, and they each read at least 3 of the books. Some team members read almost all of them!
On March 7th, we traveled by bus to Indepence High School to meet up with the other schools. We had 4 rounds of competition, with the teams participating in double elimination where they were asked increasingly harder questions about each of the books using Kahoot. The Independence and Heritage High School Librarians, Ms. Stone and MS. Butler, organized the entire event. All of the high school librarians helped pick the books and write the questions. I was so proud of our Reedy team, because they made it all the way to the final round to compete for the champion title! In the end, we lost to the team from Independence. Overall, it was a great day talking about books, celebrating reading, and getting to know new people!
