This week at the RBE Library, our 2nd graders are going to be learning about procedural texts. Since our library has so many wonderful procedural texts, the students are going to examine procedural texts in groups.
Each table had a stack of different books that were How To. The students looked at the different books in groups and discussed what they noticed about procedural texts that appeared in all the different types of books (cooking, drawing, origami, craft, games, etc). They passed the books to get an idea of the different styles of How To writing.
After they discussed this in groups, we use this graphic organizer to record our observations. Then the students used the books at the tables to record a good example of a procedural text that they could refer back to later.
