This week at the RBE Library our 1st graders were learning about Nonfiction Text Features in their classroom.
We discussed that Nonfiction books are different than fiction books because you don’t HAVE to read them from start to finish. Also, Nonfiction books have LOTS of text features that help us navigate and understand the information presented in the book.
I divided the kids by table and each student had their own copy of the Nonfiction Text Features Reading Response and a stack of books marked with post its for each text feature on the response sheet.
The students, with guidance, went through the books and marked the different text features on their paper as they encountered them in the book.
